HUMANCENTiPAD starts out with Cartman bragging to everyone about how cool his iPad is. However, we soon discover that Cartman glued a piece of glass to an iPad cover and doesn’t really have an iPad.
Cartman’s quest for an iPAD
This begins the first storyline of the episode, Cartman’s manipulation of his mom. Rather than blaming himself for lying to everyone about having an iPad, he blames his mom for making him wait until his birthday to get one.
Cartman and his mom go to Best Buy to look at iPads. However, Cartman’s mom suggests he gets one of the tablets that doesn’t cost as much. Cartman replies to this by saying ,“Mom, everyone knows that everything but Apple is stupid.”
Cartman couldn’t have spoken truer words. There are so many different brands of tablets that will do the exact same thing as the iPad, yet people will pay hundreds of dollars more because it’s an Apple-brand product. The same thing happened with iPods when they first flooded the market.
Cartman keeps telling his mom how much he his F’ed by her. He means this in the figurative sense and not literally. However, he goes so far as to go on Dr. Phil to tell his story to the nation as if he she is literally doing this to him.
This is just another instance of Cartman doing whatever it will take to get his way. He started out with a small lie, but now he will go to great lengths to make sure he has an iPad that he can brag about to all of his friends.
Kyle agrees to Apple’s terms and conditions
Meanwhile, Kyle is being hounded by Apple. Apple informs Kyle he agreed to the terms and conditions on the last update for iTunes. Kyle must fulfill that contract by doing whatever Apple wants, including letting Apple shoot Kyle’s dad with a Taser and being a part of Apple’s new product.
This was the most enjoyable part of the show as everyone can relate. Anytime you download a program or install a game, you must agree to the terms and conditions. No one actually reads it, as it is far too long and too boring. Butters words it perfectly when he asks Kyle, “Well, how do you know you agree to it if you don’t read it?”
The terms and conditions say Kyle must be sewn to other iTunes users to create a new Apple product. Kyle signs waiver after waiver saying he wants out of the deal, but he never reads the agreements.
This was a fairly good opening episode of South Park. The jokes about not reading the agreement were spot on, and Cartman went to great lengths to have the upper hand on all his friends.
