South Park is back for its 14th season in 2010 and what better way to start off a new season than to do an episode about the most controversial story this past holiday season: the Tiger Woods sex scandal.
For those of you living under a rock for the past few months, Tiger Woods was caught having relations with multiple women and has been diagnosed with sex addiction.
In "Sexual Healing," scientists test the children in America to see if sex addiction occurs early. Butters, Kyle and Kenny all test positive for sex addiction after completing a “fool-proof” test.
Money Causes Sex Addiction
The scientists have a theory as to why rich, successful celebrities are sex addicts. They decide to test their theory on chimps. The chimps lead normal, peaceful lives, but once one of the chimps is given tons of money, his sex drive increases.
The scientists then try to figure out why money causes men’s sex drive to increase. The clue is printed on the back of a $100 bill. Independence Hall is where the wizard alien lives that spreads the sex addiction.
South Park continues to poke fun at celebrity scandals and reduce them to outrageous stories. Since there is no way a person can be responsible for their own actions, there has to be an outside source that is making rich, successful celebrities have sex with lots of women.
Sex Addiction is Not a Disease
Although this story is not as ridiculous as some of the other stories South Park has come up with in the past, they get their point across that sex addiction is not a disease. The writers insist that being Tiger Woods means lots of fame and fortune, but also temptations. Many people in Woods’ position would probably fall into the same pitfalls that Woods and other celebrities fall into.
The writers (and Kyle) suggest that celebrities should just have some restraint rather than blaming it on other things. Celebrities aren’t the only people that cheat on their significant others. It happens to average people as well. They don’t have an obscene amount of money to blame it on, they only have themselves.
This episode was true to its roots. It took a controversial story and rationally explained what was going on. Trey Parker and Matt Stone continue to impress with their simplification of stories that the media turns into overly-complex situations.
It appears that South Park is still fresh and is not running out of story ideas. Hopefully the boys will be featured more in upcoming episodes, but for now, a good start to the 14th season for the boys in the quiet mountain town.
